Border Crossing Point of European Union Opened

On 26 May 2011, Koidula Customs and Border Station (the border station between the European Union and Russia, the area 52,200 m2) was opened for traffic. It was built according to the full design prepared by Amhold and construction works were carried out by Nordecon AS.

Establishment of Koidula is one of the most important tasks of transportation and regional politics; it also has a positive impact on development of the entire South Estonia. In addition to cargo transport, building the border station also enables re-establish the passenger train route of Valga-Võru-Koidula-Tartu-Tallinn, which is an important central junction of marital, railway, air and road logistics.

As the lead designer of the full design, Amhold performed the following design disciplines: architecture, interior design, fittings, civil engineering, heating, ventilation, cooling, hot and cold water supply, storm and waste water sewerage, electrical systems, fire alarm systems, control engineering, clean agent fire extinguishing systems, railway platform structural solutions, engineering technical and environmental surveys. During the construction works Amhold provided author’s supervision and consultancy services.
